Imagine a Day Without Water 2021

The Groveland Water and Sewer Department invites the community to take part in “Imagine a Day Without Water 2021” on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, designed to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy water supply.

“Imagine a Day Without Water” asks the public to consider what life would be like if the water supply was cut short, and to consider the need for investing in the nation’s critical water infrastructure.

“We ask residents to think about all the parts of their day that involve water, from their coffee in the morning to laundry at night,” Superintendent Colin Stokes said. “These small things require a secure infrastructure and dedicated professionals.”

The Department and Superintendent Stokes invite the public to contact them with questions about water quality, treatment techniques, or infrastructure plans.

There are many projects in the queue to help improve water quality and quantity in Groveland.

The Water Department is currently undertaking a water main replacement project on Union and Chestnut Streets. The existing water main dates back to 1920.  During the last year we have been drilling test wells in search of a water source with lower iron and manganese. Iron and manganese are naturally occurring minerals that cause the discolored water that some residents experience at times.

Groveland also received a grant of $34,400, which funded a feasibility study to construct a water treatment/filtrationfacility for Groveland. This facility would filter our water and remove iron and manganese, which Groveland currently does not have the capability to do.

Interested residents may call during 978-556-7200 during regular business hours, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
