Water and Sewer Department Reminds Residents of Outdoor Water Ban

The Water and Sewer Department reminds all residents that the town is under an outdoor water ban due to a continuing drought.

The Department declared the ban on Sept. 9, 2025, when the state declared a Level 2 drought for the Northeast Region, and has maintained it throughout the winter and spring.

The State Drought Task Force reduced its rating to Level 1 in April due to snow melt. It then reinstated the Level 2 designation on May 8, as rainfall has not made up for the reduction of groundwater flow over the past two years.

By regulation, a Level 2 Drought requires that all non-essential outdoor water uses are banned, except watering of flower gardens with drip irrigation, hand-held hoses or watering cans. This means that residents should shut off their lawn irrigation systems.

“Our residents are our biggest help in enforcing these rules,” said Superintendent Colin Stokes. “Drought conditions place a larger demand on our production capacity, so it’s vital that we be able to meet the water needs of our community.”
