Groveland Water and Sewer Department to Conclude Fall Flushing
Program Was Conducted Using Newly-Implemented Approach
GROVELAND — Superintendent Thomas Cusick reports that the Groveland Water and Sewer Department is concluding its fall system flushing today, which it conducted using a new approach.
The department expects to finish its fall flushing by 2 p.m. today.
Starting with its fall flushing work, the Groveland Water and Sewer Department implemented a new uni-directional flushing method, which relies on a system wide redirection of water flow by isolating water mains and shutting gates.
As a result, the uni-directional method is more reliant on these gates, which and less reliant on above ground hydrants. Main gate valves are used in an emergency to make repairs by isolating areas in the water system.
“While we have encountered some challenges in implementing this new program, including temporary service interruptions, we’ve ultimately seen a tremendous improvement in the flushing process,” Superintendent Cusick said. “I appreciate residents’ patience as we worked through this program, and I expect that this new approach will contribute to a long-term improvement in water quality system wide.”
