Roughly 500 Service Lines Inspected with Zero Lead Lines Discovered

GROVELAND – Groveland Water and Sewer would like to share that the Service Line Inspection Project is making significant progress and nearing completion. Almost 500 water service lines in town have been inspected, with zero new lead lines discovered.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requires municipal water departments to identify materials used in water service lines, which are the pipes owned by the property owner that bring water from the street into a home or business.

Through its aggressive efforts, Groveland identified approximately 1,170 service lines whose makeup material was unknown. The Water and Sewer Department issued a mailing with a QR code, asking affected property owners to photograph their service lines. Groveland Water and Sewer staff have been actively inspecting five or six homes on average every day.

To date, Groveland has data on 1,300 of approximately 2,000 services in Town. Water Department crews have been inspecting service lines daily through appointments with homeowners.

Remaining residents are encouraged to complete a Water Service Line Identification survey here to help Groveland Water and Sewer collect this vitally needed data.

As a reminder, receiving a notice in the mail seeking information or requesting inspection does NOT necessarily mean that your service line is made of lead. It means that the material type is not on file with the Water and Sewer Department, and the notice was issued seeking to identify and file the material type as required by law.

When utilizing the QR code, please be sure to photograph the short piece of pipe between the water meter and the concrete wall or floor.

Residents who have not scheduled an appointment or provided data through the QR code will be contacted at least once per year until the data is collected. Regulations dictate that we send a letter once per year to all locations that have an unknown service material.
